Post-Nebula fun continues with folks who are visiting town: great lunch with old pals Stephen Gould & Laura Mixon, in from NM - Steve's book Jumper is going to be a bazillion-dollar movie starring Samuel Jackson this summer! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Dinner with one of my oldest NYC publishing friends, Beth Meacham, and in between a surprise invitation to an advance screening of Stardust! I liked a whole lot. A smart script, and visually riveting - I don't always retain images from movies I see, but this one really worked for me. Mr. Vess, stand up and take a bow! Michelle Pfeiffer, Peter O'Toole & Robert DeNiro chew the scenery with great aplomb, making the most of some juicy parts, and Mark Strong has my vote for Villain of the Year.
Thanks for your nice comments on the Nebula Dress - it is, in fact, my old Alicia Mugetti wedding dress of noble fame (yeah, This Old Thing?), in which I have be married twice (to the same person). If anyone posts a decent photo of it in full length (seems like I never stood up for Ellen Datlow), please let me know & I'll put it up here!

Truer words were never spoken. I can't wait to see this, if it's done right. I've read six copies of this books to pieces and given away four more.
I GOT IN!!!ONE!! :DDDDDD
*GIIIIANT HUG*
But now I've got a new set of dragons to slay...my father very much does not approve (he planned for me to work all summer long, and into the fall as well, which technically I can still do), and we had a big, bloody arguement about it. Mama` was proud, but then the prices floored her. And Mr. Schmidt, who emailed the acceptance letter, isn't being too prompt about confirming whether or not I got the scholarship (it wasn't indicated in the acceptance email). And it looks like the scholarship doesn't include this big ol' convention called Confluence at the end, anyway. o.o;
But if God wants it to happen, he'll show me a way to make it work! :) I'm just going to continue reveling in the acceptance letter for a while! (D YAYS!
I just got back from the Nebulas, too. John Schmid (no "t" on the end) is trying to compile all the Alpha scholarship requests today.
I know the price is way high--the $950 tuition counts everything but the hotel and food at the con for the last two days. I'd figure $30 a night if you share a room and $20 a day for food at the con, so that's an extra $100 on top of the tuition fee. The staff are all volunteers and the invited guests come for dirt cheap. We basically pass on the real costs for food and dorm rooms to the students, but it's still expensive.
If your parents want to talk with me, feel free to give them my number. I'll be home today (724 863-1345). I hope something can be worked out.
Congrats on the acceptance.
