Hope for Artists

Bryn Mawr: Writing
'It was Thomas Edison, I think, who famously said, after failing for the hundredth time to invent a working light bulb: “I haven’t failed, I’ve just found a hundred ways not to do it.” That is a really good principle for artists.'

...except that I am a Tesla girl, and I don't do things the Edison way... [grin]

Having read the bold before reading the rest of the quote, I misread it initially, and thought "a hundred ways not to do it" referred to the multitude of little steps in daily procrastination. Which did not sound like a really good principle for artists. Glad to have it clarified on the reread.

So all I need to do is put "Obsess over 2012 election" at the top of my To Do list, and then I'll get other things accomplished this month? Cool!

Actually, when I write a To Do list, I usually do get some things off the top done, and some from the middle, in fairly short order. The problem is that it takes me too long to get around to writing the list.
